Funambol updates its open source Blackberry service rival
Funambol Inc. has announced that they have now made available an updated version of their open-source software for delivering push e-mail, address book and calendar functions.
This open source application provides an alternative to the popular Research in Motion’s Blackberry service.
The version 6 of their Java-based server application is compatible with Linux and Windows based servers.
It allows the companies to push e-mail to mobile devices from Exchange, Domino, IMAP/POP servers. In addition, it also supports the open-source SyncML (Synchronization Markup Language) standard.
The updated edition adds support for direct SQL database support for address book and calendar information.
They have also made available plug-ins for Windows Mobile and Office with new user interfaces to make them more user friendly.
