Second Life to get VoIP powered talking capabilities

The online virtual 3-D world of the Second Life has till now had only chatting facility through typed words. The developers have now said that they aim to add VoIP powered talking feature in the near future.

Linden Lab has said that they are working on implementing voice-over-Internet software that will enable the citizens of this online world to talk to each other over their computers’ microphones and speakers.

One of the key features being planned is spatial audio. This means that the ability to talk and hear conversations would rely on how far two individuals are from each other.

The members of the service would be able to control exactly whom they can talk to. They can also block hearing sounds from other members they do not want to hear.

The testing of this new service is expected to begin sometime next week. They aim to provide an updated test software release by the end of March.
