Google offering wireless email service

Google has already been offering web based tools through their Google Docs & Spreadsheets service which provide an online alternative to products offered by companies like Microsoft.

Now, the company has launched a free mobile e-mail service which is aimed at the market currently dominated by Research In Motion Ltd.

Joe Kraus, the executive who oversees Google’s collaborative software efforts said in a statement: “Because we can communicate so easily with one another over e-mail, we’re even more dependent on each other than we ever were. So now it’s not really about how do you make the individual more productive. We think the opportunity is in helping make groups of people more productive and more capable. Collaboration is really at the heart of every single Google online application.”

The company added that the wireless email service launched in Canada last week and in the U.S. last November is part of their plan to make software free and collaborative.

The mobile version of Gmail is advertising free at the moment and the company has no plans to add them in the near future.
