Google Gmail now opens for registration to all

Google has finally made their Gmail webmail service open to all. Anyone anywhere can now visit the website to create an account. No invitations are required anymore.

The service has been opened for open registration in several countries and regions. The limitations are all gone now.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin said about Gmail that the service has become a ‘cornerstone’ for the company. It is highly integrated with other Google services (like Google Maps for example). It also has the built in Google Talk support which Yahoo! has now replicated on their mail service.

Google Gmail remains a free service though the company seems to be planning on paid services. Sources say that these charges would be similar to $25 to $500 it charges annually for between 6.25GB and 250GB of additional storage on its Picasa photo-hosting service.

Market research companies have claimed that Google Gmail has now passed AOL to become the world’s third biggest email provider, with 60 million users.
