Microsoft Live OneCare is now the second most popular security product in the US market
Market analysts had expected this to happen and we now have clear indication that cheap pricing has indeed helped Microsoft to overtake existing players in the security applications market.
Their Live OneCare security package is now the second most popular security product in the US market. Symantec continues to dominate the market with their Norton branded security applications.
As per information available, Microsoft has captured around 15% of the market share in the retail security suite sales.
Chris Swenson, director of software industry analysis at NPD added: “The list price of $50 was revolutionary. That slashed [the current] pricing in half for a security suite. That is just so cheap for a three-license SKU.”
Symantec’s share in this market has now dropped from 69.9 percent in May to 59.8 percent in June.
