IBM reports Lotus Notes bugs
US based tech giants IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) has confirmed that several critical security issues have been discovered in their Lotus Notes application. Some of these flaws are critical enough to allow attackers to hijack corporate systems if users simply viewed incoming e-mail.
Security agency Secunia discovered six flaws in this application suite and has labeled them as “Highly criticalâ€. They have also reported that some of these flaws are serious enough to create buffer overflows. This is bad enough to allow hackers to start dropping their own code onto a compromised computer.
IBM has confirmed that several versions of Notes are at risk, including 7.0 and 6.5.4. However, users can upgrade their versions to 6.5.5 or 7.0.1 to solve these issues. IBM added in a security advisory: “In general, users are strongly urged to use caution when opening or viewing unsolicited file attachments.â€
