Yahoo! to integrate RSS into Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! considers RSS to be the next most important thing for the web users after email. As a result, the search engine giant has decided to incorporate RSS Syndication facility in its free web mail service Yahoo! Mail. They are expected to unveil today, a new Really Simple Syndication feed alert service, and integration of RSS feeds into its new Yahoo Mail beta.
With this update, Yahoo! will become the first and only one of the major free web mail service providers to integrate RSS into their mailboxes. Their were rumors earlier in the market that Google was planning to do so with their Gmail service. Even some screenshots were released on the net but they never actually came through from the company.
The new RSS feed alert service would enable the users of Yahoo! Mail to receive alerts via e-mail, instant message or SMS message. Scott Gatz, senior director of personalization products for Yahoo said in a statement: “You can get an alert for any RSS feed out there on the Internet. There are a million different feeds that people have subscribed to using Yahoo products.â€
Yahoo! is already a heavy provider of RSS feeds. They offer feed syndicated on their My Yahoo! portal and users can subscribe for RSS feeds on the News channels.
