Record labels launch Digital File Check application

If you are a parent or a system administrator who fears that, the computers at home/work are being used to download digitally copyrighted content illegally than the recording companies are ready to help you out. The music and movie industries are offering a software application called ‘Digital File Check’, which can help them remove the offending content and prevent any future, downloads.

This freely downloadable utility would uninstall or disable file-sharing programs on people’s computers. In addition, Digital File Check would also search computers for music and movies and remove any illegal copies as per the information released by these companies. As a result, a computer can be made safe and clean of any illegally downloaded content, which can result in possible lawsuits, by organizations like RIAA and MPAA.

Motion Picture Association of America got the help to develop this application from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which is a London-based affiliate of the Recording Industry Association of America. Dan Glickman, the president of the MPAA spoke about these latest efforts: “Digital File Check is easy to use and can help people prevent their employees, children and others from illegally downloading and swapping movies.”

He added: “It could be especially useful for parents who want to encourage their children to enjoy music responsibly on the Internet. It is free, voluntary and for private use only and does not tip off any ant piracy organizations.”

However, the companies have also ensured that the application does not reveal any information about the system and the found content and content to any third party.
