Google Talk is out
So, the rumors were all true! Google has finally launched the much expected and awaited instant messenger product in the form of Google Talk. The site is online now and the software is available for download. the software is amazingly only 900k download which is nothing when we compare to the multi-megabyte downloads of MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. The company is making this application available for free.
The company website says this about Google Talk: “They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world.†It offers choice, quality and convenience to stay in touch with the friends and relatives. The software is in beta stage currently and the Google’s universal user id works in it.
Interestingly, Google Talk also comes equipped with a voice chat module. This might become the next killer application in this market after Skype as both Microsoft and Yahoo! are working hard on improving the support for VoIP in their messengers. Of course, the service is free and is expected to remain so in the coming future. This means that the competition gets intense for Microsoft and Yahoo! to keep improving while keeping updates and value added services for free…
