Opera Browser is now free for Universities!

In a major step by the Opera Software ASA, the browser is now available for free for certain Higher Educational Institutions. Their only aim is to get the users off the buggy and ancient Internet Explorer, which comes up with new problems every week opening up networks of computers to security glitches.

The company has proclaimed that this step is to prevent security mishaps in the academic institutions and provide a better, secure, and personalized web experience to the students and teachers of colleges and universities.

The offer has already been grabbed by some big names including Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US as well as Oxford University in the UK as per the details released by the company.

The company plans to provide free upgrades to the software. However, support and customization requests would not be free. Universities can get their own customized versions of Opera Browsers for their students to popularize the concept amongst them.

CEO of Opera Software, Jon von Tetzchner told media: “Opera is fully standards compliant and offers extensive administration possibilities for network configuration, providing flexibility to system administrators as they make Opera a part of their university network.”
