Opera Software introduces Extensible Rendering Architecture

Designing websites to suit all screen resolutions and mediums have always been a challenge for web developers. And to keep development costing in control, most corporations go for the safest option, which is normally 800×600 resolution on a computer desktop.

Opera Software started working to solve this problem on the Browser end with their Small Screen Rendering (SSR) technology, which rendered pages on desktop editions to fit within a PDA sized width. Later they introduced Medium Screen Rendering (MSR) to make it more flexible for various other platforms. Now, integrating and improving all those technologies, Opera’s new Extensible Rendering Architecture (ERA) solves the problem of rendering Web pages effectively regardless of screen size and medium.

This mode is designed to re-render pages to fit the width of the window size of the browser on any platform. Therefore, websites, which are wider than the browser screen fit into the width of any kind of internet accessing devices running the Opera Browser. This also helps in the printing of webpages as pages shrink to fit available paper size.

Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software told media #: “Opera’s vision is to enable people to access their favorite Web sites on any device, and ERA means that users can have a great Internet experience on any screen regardless of a Web page’s width, tables, or frames. With its unlimited applicability, ERA technology is truly a milestone in Web page rendering.”

Opera Browser 7.60 would incorporate this feature and a preview release version is accessible from the Beta Forum section.
