Blogger is now surprisingly cool
Blogging, General Thoughts September 4th, 2004
I have had a love hate relation with Google’s Blogger service. I started blogging with it. It just stopped working for me one day and I moved on. But since then I have had minor brushes with the updates that Google added with time and it has now become pretty darn good!
Some recent decisions by Google has completely turned around the way guys like me looked at Blogger. Now it sports no advertisements… Google’s own adsense block is history and instead we have a cool looking bar that adds Google site search to the Blog. Other than that users get to surf around other Blogger based Blogs using the toolbar itself. Bloggers get to Blog using the BlogIt button.
And well, the new templates that were added to the Blogger services are some of the coolest skins available in free Blogging services. They now look really nice. Though it still lack some basic features like categories or community tools, it is very easy for a new user to start blogging. Google has certainly made it from something not so good into something really cool. And the fact that now users can use their own personal adsense codes… it is like paying people to Blog!
How do they do that? Someone tell me that!

Yeah the features of Blogger are very cool, but just recently it’s become pretty unreliable for me; timeouts, 500 server error messages etc.
My advice also is to just use IE with it, it seems sporadically buggy when I use Firefox; on a few occasions the preview feature in the new editor crashed the browser :|
Yeah Blogger is extremely good! Combine that with the fact that it is now managed by Google (known for reliability) - and you have a winner on your hands.
I used Blogger in the past. I eagarly switched to WordPress when I saw the community forum. I like the way WordPress fits into what I need. I viewed through the plug-ins. Everything seemed great. It was then I made the switch.
After I made the switch to WordPress, I let my Blogger blog stay as it is. Recently, I logged in and check out what’s been changed. Now they have comments and some other cool stuff. Don’t get me wrong though, I love WordPress as it is. They are both targeting different crowds. WordPress deals more with those who simply love to customize. Blogger doesn’t have as much features and customizations to play around. But if given the choice between Blogger and Typepad, I think I’ll go for Blogger now. It’s free and reliable. :)
yeah, blogger is great for someone who just need a great reliable platform to blog… no gizmos wanted. give me just the basic tools. :)
