WMF related security vulnerability based attacks on rise
Software giants Microsoft has confirmed that they have developed a patch for the flaw, which is related to how the Windows OS renders the popular image, format Windows Metafile. However, this patch would not be available for the mass users until January 10 as the company is still in the process of testing out the patch for public release.
They have also advised the users to not go in for unofficial patches available on the net as they might result in other problems with the various software applications. However, the reports coming in are claiming that the attacks making use of this particular vulnerability have become more widespread and are now the most widely reported threat on the Internet.
Security application developer McAfee however believes that corporate users are not massively affected by this flaw as per their customer inputs. However, the problem is now magnified, as tools are available online for creating malicious software that can be used to take over an unprotected computer. Most security companies also claim that the users of their updated application patches are secure from this particular flaw in the Windows operating system.
Another market expert Dan Nadir who is the vice president of product strategy with the Web browsing security company said in a statement: “It looks like it’s being spread either through e-mail images or though ads that are on sites that users are browsing. There’s a lot of variation. It looks like there’s more than 50 unique variations of this threat that we’ve seen.”
