Parallels Desktop for Mac RC2 is out

Parallels Inc. has launched the final pre-release version of its virtualization software named Parallels Desktop for Mac RC2.

This application enables the owners of Intel-powered Mac users to run Windows OS or Linux alongside the Mac OS X.

Apple Computers has also launched a similar application named Boot Camp but it requires the user to reboot the computer to login to another operating system. And it officially supports booting into the Windows XP OS only.

Parallels Desktop for Mac RC2 brings improved performance and users can now safely share files and folders between the different operating systems. This fixes the bug in the previous version, which caused Windows 98 OS to consume excessive resources running inside the virtualization engine.

The RC2 version also integrates a tool dubbed “Parallels Compressor Server” which impressively reduces the size of Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 virtual partitions by 50 percent or more. Parallels previously offered this as an add-on to this package.

This version is available as a free download from the company’s website. Users who pre-order the application now can get it for $39.99. At launch time, this application would cost $49.99 for the first 30 days and after that, it would cost $79.99.
