Windows Vista might result in low battery life on notebooks
Few things seem to be going right for the Microsoft’s upcoming operating system update Windows Vista. While, the company has already removed some of the most desired components in this update to ship the product in time (after massive delays already), the latest news in is that this update would consume more battery power on laptops.
Microsoft has admitted that the graphical power of the interface being introduced in the Vista OS would consume more resources. However, they plan to close the gap to an XP powered laptop machine by the time Vista ships in the retail market.
This would be disappointing for the prospective customers of this OS as newer versions are expected to be better optimized for the mobile platforms. Vista is definitely an exception.
Interestingly, the technology has improved a lot in the recent years regarding the processor speeds and the hard disk capacities. RAM prices have also gone down a lot making it easier for computer manufacturers to offer more capable notebooks at cheap prices. However, the battery technology is still waiting for the fuel cell revolution to offer better backups.
Microsoft would also be relying on the new hybrid hard disks being developed by Samsung which is expected to make the OS boot faster and notebooks giving better backups in the coming years.
