Steve Ballmer: Symantec lawsuit should not delay Windows Vista

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said in a statement that he does not believe that the Symantec lawsuit would delay the launch of their upcoming Windows Vista operating system.

Ballmer said in a statement to Reuters: “I wouldn’t anticipate any, but that will go to the courts now.”

Vista has already seen multiple delays and Microsoft is now scheduled to launch it in January next year. It would be the first major operating system release from the company in almost 5 years.

Symantec has sued the software giants accusing it of misappropriating trade secrets used in Vista. They are asking the courts to block the launch of Windows Vista operating system until all Symantec intellectual property is removed.

Symantec is claiming that Microsoft is in breach of contract related to a licensing deal with Veritas. Symantec acquired Veritas last year.

Ballmer added on this issue: “We were trying to link too much innovation together in Vista. It was beyond the state of the art of software development.”
