Lotus applications now available on RIM Blackberry

US based tech giants IBM have finally released Lotus applications for the RIM’s Blackberry devices. This would allow corporate entities to run applications for other Lotus platforms with Notes and Domino on the Blackberry wireless handheld device.

IBM vice president of business development Sean Poulley said in a statement on this initiative: “We already have integration between Blackberry and Notes users for e-mail, calendar and PIM. We’ve had this integration for quite some number of years.”

He added that as many as 125 million Notes users are now capable of using Blackberry. Sean further said: “You can use applications with the Notes Domino platform. Through new Web services technology, we are now able to expose tens of millions of applications to Blackberry users and people on the go.”

David Yach, senior vice president of software for Waterloo, Ontario-based Research In Motion added on this move from the software and services giants: “We have a lot of complementary technology. They [IBM] have their collaboration suite, we have our Blackberry. The challenge becomes for a customer taking this technology to their standards, it should mesh together.”
