Active Security Monitor: AOL testing security tools
Time Warner’s online division AOL seems to have decided to take on Microsoft by testing their own set of security tools to let web users analyze their PCs and home networks.
The tools would then alert the users about potential security hazards related to viruses, worms, spyware, and other threats.
AOL is beta testing an application they call Active Security Monitor. This software evaluates the security software and settings on users’ PCs. After the checks, it informs the user about the system’s overall security rating, along with recommendations for improvement.
The application’s webpage describes the application in this form…
If you don’t have the right programs installed and correctly configured, your system is vulnerable to attack. This is where Active Security Monitor comes in.
The tool is available as a free download from the AOL’s Beta Central site.
