Google to launch a Facebook competitor?

Google has their Orkut social network for a long time now. It is popular in some markets like Brazil and India but is little used in USA and Europe.

The search engine giant acquired Jaiku and later launched Google Buzz as an alternative service to Twitter. Jaiku is literally dead and Buzz has few fans.

Kevin Rose has tweeted that he has heard from some credible sources that Google is going to launch another social networking service.

Ok, umm, huge rumor: Google to launch facebook competitor very soon “Google Me”, very credible sourceless than a minute ago via Tweetie for Mac

It is likely to be named Google Me and it would be aimed directly at Facebook.

We are not sure if the world is in need for another social network. Facebook has won the war. People are tired of making accounts on different networks. They have settled in on Facebook. If Google Me turns out to be a clone of Facebook (just like Buzz is largely a copy of Twitter with no word limits), it is unlikely to do very well.

However, we are hoping that Google might have something different for us this time around.

They should build an app that integrates all the different social network platforms. Not build another one, I think people won't switch from facebook of twitter unless it has a lot of extra value

I don't like that Microsoft runs Facebook. So I would switch to GoogleMe in a heartbeat. I figure Google's organization will be much better than Facebook, in regards to, being able to find things a lot easier. I hate having to search for buttons to click to get to my destination. I figure Google will make user interface MUCH easier to "drive around." I can't wait!

organizing contacts is the key. and integration with other google apps.

let's hope they do not create the same mess they created with the launch of google buzz.
