Microsoft to launch customized Windows XP in Africa
Software giants Microsoft are now targeting the African market with a cheaper version of its primary product Windows XP operating system. It would be a customized version specially designed to work on cheaper low-end computers.
This version would be loaded with Africa-themed screensavers and background wallpaper to make it exciting for the targeted audience. Windows XP Starter Edition for Africa would arrive in the retail stores by the month of July though the pricing is not revealed.
The company said in a statement that this version is aimed at lower-cost personal computing hardware and is targeted at the entry-level PC users in Africa. It would come with extended help and assistance functions for first-time users, and locally relevant screensavers and wallpapers.
However, considering the poverty levels in these nations, it would be affordable only for the rich people in the region.
