Jack Messman: Novell would like a closer relationship with Oracle
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison recently amazed the media when he said that they are considering developing their own distribution of the Linux operating system. His statement further caused more buzz when he admitted that they have considered a possibility of acquiring Novell to make this process an easier one.
Novell is the second biggest distributor of Linux operating system with their SuSE branded Linux distribution.
Interestingly, Novell Chairman and CEO Jack Messman himself has now said that he’d like to get friendlier with the database giant. However, he did not comment on a possible acquisition offer that Oracle might have for Novell.
Messman said in a conference call: “Oracle’s comment helps validate Linux in the marketplace, and they have integrated open-source technology into their products, tools, and middleware. We have a good relationship with them, and I think the Red Hat-JBoss deal will cause us to have an even closer relationship with them.”
