Microsoft releases SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1

Software giants Microsoft have released the first service pack for the SQL Server 2005. This update brings some surprising updates to this product along with promised features like data mirroring and Express management perks.

This update also brings in SAP Hooks, Text Search to MS SQL Server 2005. The update includes two new components: the .Net Data Provider for SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence and the MDX Query Designer for slicing and dicing SAP data warehouse information.

Impressively, this free update to MS SQL Server adds a version of reporting services and full text search. Microsoft said that these new features were added after getting customer feedback who wanted something similar from their products.

Mark Jewett, a Microsoft senior product manager said in a statement on this feature: “This lets you write reports against data and get the full text search as well.”

Make sure you test SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 thoroughly before deploying. Here is something pretty good…and then something pretty bad that we ran into with it:
