MySQL to now offer SolidDB storage engine as an option
The makers of MySQL database solutions have added SolidDB storage engine as an option for the users. This comes after the current storage engine used by MySQL, Innobase was acquired by database giants Oracle last year.
MySQL would continue to provide both these as options in the near future. This development fills up a possible void, which could have caused by any change in policy by Oracle for the Innobase storage engine in the future.
MyISAM, Memory, Merge, and Cluster continue to remain other storage engines that plug into MySQL. This news event also means that Solid Information Systems now has their first foray into the open source world.
Interestingly, the company shares the same Cupertino, Calif. office building with MySQL. MySQL on their part offers both open-source and commercial versions of its database for various platforms used around the world.
Industry experts believe that this change would be beneficial for the MySQL users considering Solid offers transactional integrity, online back up and can be faster for mixed workloads.
