Hewlett-Packard printer software has security issues

Owners of Hewlett-Packard printers, Color LaserJet 2500 and Color LaserJet 4600 are affected by a security glitch and the security experts have said that they should upgrade to latest software and drives for these products.

The bug has been described as less critical by security agency Secunia. It affects the Toolbox software included with the Color LaserJet 2500 and Color LaserJet 4600 printers. Hewlett-Packard has acknowledged this bug and has provided an update to the Toolbox that patches the bug.

Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at U.K. security company Sophos spoke about this security vulnerability: “A vulnerability like this opens the door for hackers to spy on your sensitive information. Users running the affected software should upgrade as soon as possible.”

Users are suggested to check out the Hewlett-Packard Security advisory and take appropriate action.
