Microsoft releases Networked Media Device Feature Pack for Windows CE 5.0
Software giants Microsoft have released a set of utilities and software pack for its Windows CE 5.0 operating system. This pack is developed to make it easier for developers to code new applications for this mobile platform.
This software pack is called Networked Media Device Feature Pack and Microsoft would be providing it for free to the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). The company had released the Windows CE 5.0 OS for mobiles in 2004 and it is used by hardware manufacturers in PDAs, portable music players, and other hardware.
By releasing a developer’s pack like this, Microsoft is making sure, that the developers would have to spend less time in coding new applications for consumer electronics like networked media devices as the market for these technologies is growing up fast.
Principal analyst David Bradshaw of Ovum spoke about this software release: “Direct connections and drivers cut out some of this complexity but at the expense of flexibility.” However, this might become a problem for people who want the OS to be more open.
