Trend Micro considering subscription based security service

Microsoft began the trend by announcing their Windows Live OneCare subscription based service to offer a comprehensive PC care service. This marked the entry of the software giants in the security application business, which has been largely dominated by third party companies.

Symantec is one of the biggest players in this market and threatened by Microsoft, they also announced plans to launch their own similar services codenamed Genesis. The latest player to announce their plans to enter this segment is Trend Micro.

Trend Micro Chief Executive Eva Chen and the company’s North American President Lane Bess have confirmed that the company is likely have a competing service later this year as it seeks to boost its business in the key U.S. market.

However, not many details were revealed in a statement made to media groups. Bess spoke about this initiative: “We are not making a lot of public noise about it. We have been fairly successful about letting the other guys show their weapons first. We believe later on this year we will have a comparable, if not superior service.”
