Adobe fixes several security flaws in Flash component
Makers of popular graphical and print media applications, Adobe Systems have patched a number of critical vulnerabilities in its Flash media player. Adobe acquired this application after they took over their rivals Macromedia last year.
The patch fixes several security bugs in the flash component that could be used by attackers to take over an affected system. The flaw was so critical that even Microsoft had to advice their customers to take extra precautions with their systems capable of running flash files.
The flaw could have resulted in hackers exploiting the bug by tricking a user into loading a maliciously encoded Flash movie file. This security flaw was present in several flash versions including 8.0.22 or earlier. It also affected other applications like Breeze Meeting, version 5.1 and earlier; as well as the Shockwave player, version 10.1.0.11 and earlier.
Both Windows OS and Macintosh editions were affected by this flaw.
