AOL launches Link2PC service for remove PC access

Time Warner’s internet division America Online has announced that they are launching a new service to allow users to remotely access and control their PCs from any other internet-connected PC.

They call this new service Link2PC and it creates a virtual desktop that mirrors the view of the desktop on the user’s own machine. Users can use this service to virtually use programs, open and edit documents, or access, share and print files.

AOL would be powering this service with Strong encryption and two-level password validation to help protect user’s security. They would also be able to select which programs are available remotely.

This online service would cost $6.95 a month for up to two host computers. Ed Fish, senior vice president for AOL premium and subscription services said in a statement on this service: “Link2PC un-tethers the desktop computer in a simple and secure manner. Traditionally these kinds of products were developed solely for ‘road warrior’ business travelers, and many required an instruction manual to operate.”
