Just days after the search engine giants Google acquired the makers of online word processing application Writely, the company has acquired yet another firm. This time Google has set its eyes on 3D modeler @Last Software as it look towards expanding their online services.

The two companies involved in the deal have not revealed the financial details of the transaction. Google has also not provided much detail on how they look towards exploiting the capabilities of @Last’s sole product called SketchUp.

This tool is basically aimed at general audience, not just design professionals. This company also provided a free plug-in for the users of Google Earth application to enable them create three-dimensional shapes on the maps available on the Google servers.

Brad Schell, co-founder of the 7-year-old company said in a statement made on their website that they plan to further develop the application. He said: “Google’s resources will allow us to serve our current users better, and Google’s reach will allow us to expose more people to SketchUp in one year than we could have touched in 10 years on our own.”

Schell added: “‘3D for Everyone’ is becoming a reality; we’re bringing the ‘3D’ part; Google’s contributing the ‘Everyone.’”
