Windows Live Mail Desktop to replace Outlook Express
Software giants Microsoft have announced that they would soon be releasing the beta version of their upcoming replacement to the hugely popular Outlook Express e-mail client. Outlook Express has shipped with the Windows Operating System for many years now and is now set to get a massive overhaul in the form of a totally new email client called Windows Live Mail Desktop.
This new mail client would soon be available in beta form for testing. Microsoft has said that the new client would incorporate the feature additions developed after 2001 when they had last released Windows XP. Microsoft has not released an update to that operating system until now and is scheduled to release Vista later this year.
This new client is expected to have support for RSS feeds and blogs. Windows Live Mail Desktop would also come with ‘Quick Search Box’ to enable quick searching in emails. This feature has been present in Opera Mail and Thunderbird since ages.
Microsoft is also incorporating the Photo Mail feature available with MSN Mail users into this offline mail client to make it easier for users to send photos by mail.

Well, I think you should always have up to date email backups. I used to do it manually by saving the .dbx files, until I found http://www.amicutilities.com/outlook-express-backup/ – Outlook Express Backup Genie that does it automatically at regular times.
I choused it over other because it can work with both MS Outlook and Outlook Express
