Google acquires Writely

Search engine giant Google has just acquired the web solutions company, which developed the amazing online word processing application Writely. Writely enabled the consumers to work on their documents on the web using a web browser and also provided storing and sharing capacities.

However, the development for this application is still in early stages and the service is only available as a beta. Considering, now Google would be working on it, people can expect the speed of development to improve and many more features coming in.

Google has been recently getting into expanding their web application services and this would just add to the already long list. The company already is in collaboration with Sun Microsystems to promote their OpenOffice initiative so we might just see a mechanism combining the powers of these two offline and online applications.

The best part of the deal is that the service is independent upon what operating system the user is on and only requires a capable web browser and an internet connection.
