Apple stands to gain if Mac runs Windows Operating System
Apple Computers recently shifted some of their Macintosh computer products to the Intel platform, which makes it technically possible to run Windows Operating System on them. However, the company has not really made it easy for the owners of Intel powered Macs to do so, but it is possible with certain tweaks and hacks.
Apple on their part has said that they won’t stop their consumers to go ahead and install Windows XP on their machines but they are not going to provide any support for it. However, a market study has revealed that the company might sell a million more of their Mac computers if it becomes possible to run Windows XP and its applications on it comfortably considering a lot of PC users have found Macintosh hardware to be pretty desirable.
The basic problem is the firmware used by the Apple hardware, which is based on a recent Intel technology called EFI, or Extensible Firmware Interface specification. Windows uses archaic BIOS firmware that’s 20 years old and Microsoft has said that they might not be able to ship Vista with EFI in its original release.
However, lack of technical support might become a real issue if people indeed are able to run Windows OS and its application on the Mac platform in the coming months and years.
