Opera 9 weeklies pass the Acid 2 test!
Apple Safari has already done it. Konqueror and iCab are pretty close to do it. Microsoft has already clarified that they won’t be able to do it with the upcoming Internet Explorer 7 web browser update.
Opera joins the small list by becoming only the second web browser to have passed the very comprehensive Acid 2 test. The company recently started releasing weeklies as they are closing in on launching the Opera 9 version in the coming months. And the latest nightly from the company passes the Acid 2 test.
What is Acid 2 test?
Acid2 is a test case designed by the Web Standards Project to identify web page rendering flaws in browsers and authoring tools. It is an updated edition of the original Acid test of 1997.
Acid2 employs certain features of HTML, and more prominently CSS, which were poorly-supported in most browsers at its time of writing in April 2005. The purpose of employing such features is to highlight the problems with browsers that do not display it correctly. The Acid2 test should render correctly on any browser that follows the W3C HTML and CSS specifications. Any browsers which do not correctly and completely support all of the features which Acid2 takes advantage of will not render the page correctly.
