Google Android Market now has 20,000 mobile apps
Update: Google has stated that this figure is not correct and the official Android Market has around 16000 active mobile apps.
Google Android Market is now home to more than 20,000 applications.
This number is still nothing compared to more than 100,000 for Apple App Store.
However, Android Market is growing at a rapid pace with the launch of new exciting smartphones like the Motorola Droid.
Google itself is expected to launch their own branded Nexus One smartphone early next year. That should further boost the popularity of this mobile platform.
Online sources indicate that around 62% of the apps available on the Android Market are free downloads.
