Opera Mini in China gets firewalled
Opera Mini enable mobile users to access web sites through Opera servers which compress the data before it is delivered to the user.
This feature enabled mobile users in China to access content that was otherwise blocked on their local internet service providers.
Opera apparently has been forced to to update their Opera Mini application for the Chinese market.
The edition being offered in China comes with special settings which forces it to connect to local Opera caching servers that block access to certain sites.
Opera has confirmed this switch but did not give out the reasons. Opera said: “The difference between the Chinese and the international version is that the former connects to compression servers within China…..benefits are higher speed, lower costs and an overall improved mobile web browsing experience.”
