AOL collaborating with WebEx on Instant Messaging
Time Warner’s internet division America Online has announced their plans to collaborate with WebEx Communications. The two companies would be working together to develop a business version of AOL’s popular AIM instant-messaging software.
This application would be called AIM Pro and it would be developed to provide more security and features to help workers collaborate and perform other tasks. WebEx would be providing the technology to enable collaboration and the mail conversations would be encrypted to make them more secure.
The users of AIM Pro would be able to communicate with users of regular version of AOL Instant Messenger but some critical features like secure messaging would be missing from these conversations.
AOL has not announced the prospective pricing for this new application but they are expected to charge a subscription fee for this sort of service. Brian Curry, vice president for premium and subscription services at AOL said in a statement on this new service initiative: “The new service will bring business-class IM, online conferencing, collaboration, desktop sharing and advanced multimedia services to the global workplace.â€
