Oracle acquires Sleepycat Software
The buying spree of the database market giants Oracle continues as the company has now acquired another company. This time Oracle has acquired open source database vendor Sleepycat Software.
This deal is expected to help the company strengthen its hand in the embedded database market. It also goes on to confirm the market rumors that Oracle is indeed looking into acquiring Open Source application developers.
The acquisition would help the company expand their offerings of free software and make them a bigger player in the embedded database product market. The company already offers Oracle Lite for mobile devices.
Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB is already being incorporated in several open source products, including the Linux and BSD Unix OSes in addition to the Apache Web server, OpenLDAP directory, and OpenOffice.
