Yahoo Geocities shutting down tomorrow
Yahoo would turn off the plug on their Geocities web service which has enabled millions of users to host a website on the web for free.
The service began as Beverly Hills Internet way back in 1994. It was one of the first to offer free hosting space online for web pages.
Yahoo acquired this company in 1999.
Things have changed massively in the last couple of years. Blogs have replaced amateur websites. Web hosting is cheap. Free CMS software makes it very easy to make and maintain websites.
Yahoo had announced earlier this year that they would shut down this service. And the day would arrive tomorrow. The service shut down would involve deletion of all user data uploaded on this service over the last decade.
