YouTube Subscriptions updated with new features

Google has updated the subscription feature of YouTube with new capabilities.

The new changes can become quite cumbersome for heavy users of the service.

The new features are designed to enhance the social networking aspect of the service.

Here is the description from Google help pages:

Now, subscribing to someone means subscribing to their uploads as well as their public activity (their favorites, their ratings, etc).

You’ll continue to see your subscriptions’ uploads in your “Subscriptions” box on your homepage, and you’ll see your subscriptions’ favorites, ratings, etc in the “Recent Activity” box on your homepage. In fact, we’ve renamed the “Friend Activity” box to “Recent Activity” to reflect that it now contains activity from more places than just your YouTube friends.

If you’d prefer not to see activity from your subscriptions, just click on “Edit Subscription” after making a subscription, or when on your subscription’s channel page. You can modify any subscription to be subscribed to a) all of their public activity (their uploads, favorites, ratings, etc), or b) just their uploads.

All of your current subscriptions are untouched – if you’d like to upgrade them to full subscriptions, just find the “Edit subscription” link on their channels, or use the Subscription Center.
