Google and CodeWeavers working on Picasa for Linux
One of the first software applications to have come out from the Google brand was the imaging application Picasa that the company offered for free after acquiring the parent company making the software.
The search engine giant Google is now reportedly working in collaboration with CodeWeavers Inc. to bring Google’s popular Windows Picasa photo editing and sharing program to Linux. The application is already available in a beta testing and if the test is successful, they might migrate more Google applications to the Linux platform.
Google also recently hired Sean Egan, the lead developer of the popular open-source IM client GAIM and is rumored to be working on a Linux version of their Google Talk application. The Linux Picasa implementation on its part includes the full feature set of the Windows Picasa 2.x software.
The Linux version combines Windows Picasa code and Wine technology to run Windows Picasa on Linux.
