WordPress 2.8.5 with improved security features

WordPress developers have released a new version of this popular open source blogging platform.

WordPress 2.8.5 is now the latest version and it comes with security improvements.

Developer Peter Westwood highlighted the updates:

A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.

Most of these updates have been back-ported from WordPress 2.9 release which is under active development.
