McAfee launches Mobile Security Platform
Security applications developer McAfee has announced the availability of their latest software solution. This product has been named Mobile Security Platform and it is targeted at the wireless carriers, device manufacturers, businesses, and consumers.
The chief component of this package is the VirusScan Mobile, which is designed to protect mobile devices against threats originating from e-mail, instant messaging, and Internet downloads.
The purpose of this suite is to protect the end consumer from malicious software at the wireless messaging entry points. This includes both multimedia messaging and Bluetooth connectivity. This application supports various software platforms including Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0, Symbian Series 60, and Symbian UIQ.
This security application suite also comes with other functionalities like firewall software, content-filtering options, and AntiSpam and AntiSpyware capabilities. The mobile companies (manufacturers and service providers) can either preinstall them on mobile phones or offer them as optional downloads to the consumers to prevent malware attacks on their devices.
