Google updates Google Desktop Search
Google does not seem to rest on their laurels as they have again raised the standards in desktop searching scenario by upgrading their Google Desktop application. The company has also raised the chances of it being targeted by privacy groups as the new application brings a collaborative feature of sharing your information with others by uploading your database to Google’s server for a short duration.
As a result, the latest edition of Google Desktop demands more trust from the users of this application to make use of the additional features. The latest version enables the user to make the database relevant to his computer accessible on any other computer in regular use by the customer at home or work. A user has to give his consent for such access however.
The company has also enhanced the sidebar feature of Google desktop to perform advanced functions and now enables the user to share quick notes, news, photos, or other tidbits of data with friends or colleagues. More concerns for the privacy groups and perhaps more trouble for Google with regards to how it manages the user’s privacy.
For enterprise customers who might get offended by these new features, the search engine company already provides an enterprise version of Google Desktop, which comes with relevant security measures to enable the network administrator to control the freedom a user has on his freedom with respect to using the application.
