Facebook wants your Orkut friends on its network

Facebook might be the web’s most popular social network but it fails to compete against Orkut in markets like India and Brazil.

I guess that was the reason why I noticed this box in my Facebook homepage when I logged in today.

Facebook of course makes it very easy to import your friends from a variety of sources like address books of your email clients.

But a special box targeting Orkut makes it clear that they want you to switch from Orkut to Facebook permanently (if you are using Orkut in the first place).

I am assuming that this box is being displayed to users in India, Brazil and other markets where Orkut dominates Facebook.
