Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 6 released as work on beta begins
Ubuntu 9.10 is scheduled to arrive next month and this edition is again focused a lot on improving the speed of the OS.
Ars Technica has revealed that it can boot up on a decent system with a solid state drive in as little as 5 seconds!
If this can be replicated in real world, it is pretty phenomenal.

The developers are in fact aiming to deliver a 10 second boot up time for regular machines with the Ubuntu 10.04 release.
For now, they are aiming for 25 seconds for this upcoming edition codenamed Karmic Koala.
Ubuntu 9.10 would become the first edition to use GRUB2 and Ext4 as the default options. Other changes include:
DeviceKit would replace HAL
Empathy would replace Pidgin
Ubuntu One would be included in default installation
The final edition of Ubuntu 9.10 is expected to arrive on October 29. For now: Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 6
