How to ensure Apple iPhone 3.1 Anti-Phishing works
Apple iPhone 3.1 software update for the iPod Touch and iPhone came with a security feature which enabled anti-phishing on the Safari web browser.
However, this feature requires some manual steps to be taken to ensure its proper functioning.
Apple suggests that the user launches the Safari browser on their devices while connected to Wi-Fi (and not 3G) and then charge the phone with the screen off.
This is suggested to enable the device to download the latest database from the Apple sources.
It is designed to work on Wi-Fi so that users do not end up paying for excessive data usage on 3G or Edge.
Apple representative clarified the doubts about this new feature: “Safari’s anti-phishing database is downloaded while the user charges their phone in order to protect battery life and ensure there aren’t any additional data fees.”
