AOL needs graphic designers for their Messenger
Ad Supported, General Thoughts, Instant Messengers, Web Stuff August 9th, 2004
Met some people online who used AOL Messenger so got a chance to try it out. And well I was shocked. Nothing as glamorous as in the movie, “You’ve Got Mail!”, The messenger is a piece of crap.
Worst interface ever seen in an IM Client, it even beats Trillian for weirdness. There are scrollers, advertisements everywhere and well, it totally sucks at usability. So, I did what common sense suggested.
Downloaded the latest Gaim and logged into it. Well, Gaim itself takes time getting used to but its way better than AOL at user friendliness. But well, it retains the same smilies in the default installation. And by god, they are the worst smilies ever!
And well, it is a surprise considering AOL Messenger is one of the most popular around…
They seriously need decent graphic designers. Especially the grinning toothy smiley is awfully disgusting.

i dont think its that serious of an issue to be waisting emotions on. some people need to log off of their AIM and go outside for a nice long walk. maybe this can help eliminate the obesity problem in America!
