Yahoo launches Flickr Galleries

Galleries is the latest new feature on the Flickr service powered by Yahoo.

The company said that this feature would enable their users to make their own galleries from photos uploaded by other members.

A gallery can contain 18 photos or videos. Users also get the ability to write descriptions for the gallery and the individual elements in it.

About the 18 element limitations, Flickr said in a note:

We’ve specifically limited the number of photos or video that can be added to each gallery to 18. While it might seem like an arbitrary number, we want to give our members an opportunity to engage in activity that is similar to what a curator of a gallery or museum might undertake. And 18? It seems like a fine place to start.

Flickr Galleries is essentially a public edition of Favorites. Your favorites are generally limited to your viewing pleasure. With Galleries, you can showcase your favorite photos and videos on Flickr in groups based on any parameter you life!
