Facebook Beacon likely to be discontinued soon

Mashable has reported that Facebook is likely to discontinue their Beacon program that enabled partners to post updates connected to user’s activity on their own services to Facebook.

It was part of their advertising services aimed to generate revenues.

The launch was much controversial as users hated the intrusive nature of the Beacon program.

Facebook used the experience gained from the Beacon program to launch Facebook Connect.

Facebook Connect is voluntary and users get the choice to publish third party activities on their Facebook profile pages. It is gaining popularity pretty fast.
