Microsoft: No plans to port Vista to Mac Hardware

Apple Computers is turning its heat on Microsoft by moving onto Intel Microprocessors to make cheaper and more capable computers. Their Intel based iMac and MacBook Pro is due to hit the market very soon and would be faster than ever before. However, this is not worrying the software giants, as it seems to be from a statement from a company representative.

The retiring head of Microsoft’s Windows team Jim Allchin said in a statement that though Vista and OS X will share the same hardware platform and have many common features, Vista has the edge considering the huge presence Microsoft has in the corporate scene.

He said: “We’re a massive company. By that, I mean that Apple really has no presence in business, and we think Vista’s going to have a huge presence in business.” However, the interesting thing is that Apple has said that they won’t be making it tough for their users to try out Windows OS on their newly purchased Intel based Mac machines.

However, Microsoft has categorically denied that they have any plans to port Vista or any of their other operating system products to the Macintosh platform. The company instead sells Virtual PC software that enables Macs to run the Windows OS alongside their own. Jim Allchin said in a statement confirming this plan: “We have no plans to move Vista to the Macintosh hardware.”

Microsoft is due to launch their next major update to their operating system series, Vista later this year. However, recent statements from the company have hinted that they might delay it further if it is required to.
